That is a beautiful tribute to your sweet pet, and to death. I, too, have seen dozens, probably hundreds, of people die in my 46 + years as a respiratory therapist. I have great respect for death as we were each born to die in this life, and while I do not want to leave my loved ones behind, I look forward to the day when the Reaper comes for me and I see my Savior!
From one who has bid farewell to four dogs thus far—beautiful. In announcing the death of King George VI, Churchill said, “During these last months the King walked with death as if death were a companion and acquaintance whom he recognised and did not fear. In the end, death came as a friend, and after a happy day of sunshine and sport, after a ‘goodnight’ to those who loved him best, he fell asleep as every man or woman who strives to fear God and nothing else in the world may hope to do.”
Wonderful quote from Churchill. My kids, my wife and I have lost so many animals over the years. Our hilltop yard is a kind of canine and feline necropolis. It gives it a numinous feeling, to walk about the places where we put them to their rest. I have a habit of always removing their collars and putting them in the grave with them. No longer owned by us, but a reminder that they were part of a family.
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. -- John 6:63
Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. -- John 6:49-50

Death is the "friend" only of the dead.
