I just want to say thank you to all of you who took your valuable time to read this post, share it and in many cases to sign up for my feed. I really appreciate it! For what it's worth, this post now has well over 6000 views. I think that means I'm not alone in my concerns. Have a wonderful day!

Right there with ya Dr. Leap. Wearing my mask of reassurance for everyone that depends on me…paddling so hard inside to keep afloat and hope the strain isn’t showing…

To this I would add: if you or a family member is developing dementia, get DPOA and guardianship established now and make plans for placement before it is necessary. Dumping grandma or grandpa in the ED is not a viable option.

Dr. Leap,

Thank you for your sound advice and cogent analysis. Thank you also for including EMS and the other emergency services. I am now in my 22nd year of EMS as a paramedic supervisor at my agency, and like you, cannot remember anytime that’s it’s been this bad. I truly hope that it’s getting better and work toward that ideal every day, but time will tell.
