This was so beautiful I cried. When I was young I had a doctor who treated me just like this. And when I became a nurse I remembered that and tried to always do the same. You are a lovely man Dr. Leap.
Thank you so much, Ed, for this gentle piece on approaching children (of all ages). I have often told parents who are surprised when their usually-fearful child wants to crawl into my lap during a visit - "Everything I do I learned from Mr. Rogers". The lower tone of voice, slow movements, and keen interest in the child goes a long way. Thank you again, Annelise
Lola, indeed. I think we have to be very careful to help children not to fear physicians. I try to use needles only when absolutely necessary! And thank you for the tip. I'll fix it right away!

This should be mandatory reading for all who work in a hospital! My favorite line is "It’s acceptable to cry with them."
Thank you Christine! That's very kind of you.
One of your best. Thanks
Thanks so much my friend. And thanks for sharing this!
Wish one of my doctors had read this. Maybe then, I wouldn’t have been so afraid.
As a note: when referring to the planet Earth should be capitalized.
