This was so beautiful I cried. When I was young I had a doctor who treated me just like this. And when I became a nurse I remembered that and tried to always do the same. You are a lovely man Dr. Leap.

Thank you so much, Ed, for this gentle piece on approaching children (of all ages). I have often told parents who are surprised when their usually-fearful child wants to crawl into my lap during a visit - "Everything I do I learned from Mr. Rogers". The lower tone of voice, slow movements, and keen interest in the child goes a long way. Thank you again, Annelise

Wish one of my doctors had read this. Maybe then, I wouldn’t have been so afraid.

As a note: when referring to the planet Earth should be capitalized.

Lola, indeed. I think we have to be very careful to help children not to fear physicians. I try to use needles only when absolutely necessary! And thank you for the tip. I'll fix it right away!
