Wow. Loved this. I'm a physician myself and have worked in the ED of a tertiary referral centre. I've seen people from far away places come to our ED with the hope to reverse their ckd, cancers, cns tuberculosis, sle flares, and all those terrible diseases which I secretly hoped never existed.
I too wish for a Christmas eternal where we don't have to see sickness, or at least have a cure for all sickness.
Thank you for your kind comment. It's hard to watch. I believe that some of our burnout as clinicians is from the widespread absence of any transcendent hope. I think we can be both scientific and also believers in something far greater and higher than ourselves, which gives us reason to look for a better future, in this life or another.
