You, like Hans Duvefelt, do such a wonderful job of catching the essence of the art of medicine. I find myself wondering what prompted you to choose ER as a specialty. In any case, we need voices to let people know the real practice of medicine isn't in data collection.

Love this! Although I don’t like Hobby Lobby, I know exactly what you’re talking about. My happy place is Central Market, the upscale grocery store in my neighborhood. For all the reasons you list. Also, is it just me, or do you find yourself examining peoples veins in the check out line....

Thank you Edwin.

Rich Levitan the airway guru ( had that difficult airway course w 20 cadavers in a Baltimore basement, AirwayCam.com) said you need to find the right death to beauty ratio. I am often overwhelmed by the horrors in the ER … on my off days I take the pups to lake Yosemite in Merced , and we three swim in the freezing lake . It’s incredibly lovely as is the drive to Hornitos.

So yes, I agree

Thanks Ed

I can function much more easily in the chaos of the emergency department than I can at home. I am calm and organized in the ER… as long as I can shake off the ghosts of patients past. I wish I could have been an a hobby lobby-ist because I am sick of the adrenaline rush and the shift work.

Hobby Lobby is to your ER as your ER is to the ER in a Gaza Hospital. May God have mercy on all those poor defenseless people and preserve them and the brave Ambulance Drivers and Dedicated Physicians that enable one out of 100 severely injured (or more) to live for another day.

PRAY FOR A NO FLY ZONE OVER GAZA.

My mother took me to the big stores in NYC exactly twice a year...Once in the fall for school clothes and once in the spring for cotton dresses and the like. There were fancy lunch places in the stores for women to take a break from the hard work of buying hats and shoes. These excursions were by far the most intimate experiences I had with my mother.

And the original Sears with Santa and the candy and nuts counter. Yeah, things have changed.
