I work full time in an Emergency Department as a RN, and have for 32 years. I volunteer as an unpaid medical officer for two police departments and one sheriff's office. I see crime and the effects it has on citizens every day, and I can honestly tell you there are no, "Victimless crimes." It personally, physically, and psychologically affects everyone it touches, and their loved ones.

I think that the perception of wanting to defund the police is a myth perpetrated by political rhetoric. That said, theft is a crime in all cases, and it comes at a great cost to society. There are many reasons that people violate the rules of society and become criminals. I am not a socialist or a social worker, but ideally every potential thief should know that crime is not acceptable, that punishment is sure to follow, and that it will not be trivial. Sorry for what happened to your son, Ed. I was about to say just glad that no one was hurt... but that's not true., is it?
