When I worked in the ER in NY our heroin overdose patients would be found dumped in the ambulance bay’s with a bag of ice in their pants. The theory was the ice would stimulate them enough to keep breathing until we found them. Sadly many didn’t make it.
When I used to work in Chicago we saw quite a few heroin overdoses. It was not uncommon to have someone pour a quart of milk down the person's throat as a remedy. Massive aspiration
A beloved ED unit secretary of Gullah descent told me many years ago about several remedies using locally available plants, but the one I recall more specifically was using cobwebs on a wound to get it to stop bleeding (makes sense btw)
