I am indifferent to other peoples’ gender orientation, but I discovered when my wife and I attended the wedding of gay friends that there is someone for everybody.

The older I get the more I’m guided by my intuition. My first impression when looking at the Paris Olympics photo was that it was in fact depicting the Last Supper, and I was somewhat surprised that my reaction to it was not negative. I could be wrong, but I don’t think it was meant to be mocking. As the French spokesperson said, I think they meant to be inclusive.

It was different, far from traditional, and if their intent was to be disparaging then the outraged response to it is justified. But the more I looked, the more I felt just possibly that they were filtering the Christ phenomenon through their own experiences and perceptions, and they wanted to express it. As I write this I’m recalling that the painter of the greatest work of art that I have ever personally experienced, was in fact gay.

When I ask myself what Jesus would do, I think he would cut them some slack.

You are extremely good at rationalization. The spectacle was was intended to be shocking and intended to be an “in your face” insult to the straight, Christian world. Incidentally, it was also offensive to people of many other religious persuasions (think Islam) and decent people of good taste whether or not religious. The LGBTQ plus community is grooming the world! Our children and grandchildren will pay the price.

Yet the attitude Jesus' himself took with those who were highly offensive to Him was one of kindness and forgiveness to the sinners but one of condemnation to the self righteous hypocrites who were the religious leaders of the temple. In which group are you?

You are a FUCKING MORON.

Ironically facts show that when it comes to "grooming" and pedophilia arrests the overwhelming number of offenders are in the Church regardless of denomination.

You are right that there are pedophiles in churches. But their numbers are not “overwhelming.” It’s just that when one is arrested, the event is often widely reported.

The vast number of pedophiles are in the population at large.

No, I'm talking from a place of experience. I used to work for an arrest publication. Had the publication wished it could have opened a secondary publication dedicated solely to pedophile arrests, and and "abuse of power by an authority figure" arrests in Churches. These incidents were rampant in all denominations. The only reason they didn't was the general feeling that there would be more threats and chances of violence than anyone wanted to deal with.

No. Most Christians should have recognized that at least 17 “disciples” were too many. Let’s ignore the large man painted blue laying on a platter, and discuss Da Vinci’s work. Before his “Last Supper”, showing Jesus and his disciples behind a long table was unusual. But that is not the only aspect that was widely copied. You clearly googled and learned about his use of geometry. However, where is Judas and John the Baptist? The Artistic Director used symbolism well and often throughout the Opening Ceremonies. He wouldn’t have missed the most widely known and copied symbolism from Da Vinci’s work if he was indeed intending to parody it. And he would have had the correct number of disciples. Or at least close to. Not to mention, no man painted blue laying on a platter in the middle of the table. I find the whole thing quite hilarious. Because of the ridiculousness. 17 disciples. 🤣

OUTSTANDING! My message this morning was from 1 Corinthians 13:5 about the danger to our witness of being 'easily provoked'. Great stuff (as usual). BLESSINGS!

Mostly agree. Christian’s are so sensitive but quick to bash other religions who also are abrahamic faiths.

Did I detect innuendoes in your comments?

I did some reviewing on Dionysus, one of the Olympians.

I’m leaning more toward the Dionysus theory. The mistake was in the setting - or maybe it wasn’t. Maybe it was a long table so all of their debaucheries could be conveniently displayed in one photo.

Christians want to say this was a depiction of the Last Supper and that it was further mocking it. It has been said that The Last Supper serves as a reminder of Jesus' sacrificial love and inspires Christians to live a life of service and love towards others. So I suppose you could say that this might be mocking it since Christians certainly don't want to live a life of service and love toward others.

What has the Lord's Supper to do with the Olympics? A Greek Bacchanalia is part of the history of the Olympics.

The real problem is getting lost in the was it a depiction of The Last Supper or a Bacchanalia. Looking at the opening ceremony as a whole we are seeing the cultural rot of the Western world.

Ed, I'm delighted you posted this timely piece. I was disturbed by the images I saw online thus did not watch the opening ceremony. But, to completely boycott the Olympics as some have championed online? Those dedicated athletes...their once every 4 year chance to compete with the best of the best, and shine on the world stage...well, I feel I have permission now to watch. The clarity you bring is so appreciated.

The trouble with this is they had already said it was the Last Supper. The article has conveniently disappeared now but the day after the opening ceremonies Maria Bogner of the IOC was quoted in reputable newspapers as saying that they had not thought a parody of the Last Supper would be offensive because so many had been done before. I read it myself in The Telegraph. The gaslighting and rewriting of history by the MSM is both disturbing and evil. Regardless of whether Christians should be offended or not, it was meant to be the Last Supper and changing the narrative afterward and insisting that Christians are too easily offended makes it even worse.

I have done some research on Greek Bcchanalia Statues/Paintins/Art. Most all have nude men and women drinking wine. NONE have any depicted at a Table, fully clothed, like the blasphemy of the Last/Lord's Supper put out by the Olympic Committee. This was not the only JUDEO-CHRISTIAN blasphemy. There was the Golden Calf worship (Exodus 32:1-24 and I Kings 12:26-32). There was the Pale Horse with Death as its rider (Revelations 6:7-8) And finally the behading of Marie Antoinette, possbily mocking the beheading of John the Baptist (Matthew 14:3-12 and Mark 6:16=29

The Olympics committee could have chosen any other picture to mock. They surely didn't need to mock the Only One Who came to earth to redeem them by dying for their sins. All people are still important to Him. (Yes, He resurrected and is alive) But, He, to them? Apparently not at all. The Olympics have become disgusting.
