A beautiful and haunting song sung (and instrumentally) perfect by John Denver. Country roads forever!

My husband Bill and I certainly enjoyed your article. He was born and raised in the coal fields of Whitesville, WV, and takes great pride in his West Virginia heritage. It has been said that WV lost more men per capita in WWII than any other state. Also, despite being one of the poorest states, West Virginians also purchased more war bonds than any other state. And now at 94 years old, he has a full work schedule, another strong West Virginian. Thank you, Dr. Leap, for a great article.

I truly hope all your trails are happy. Breathe deeply in the piney woods on aa cool morning and you will know you are home, again.

They don't make nostalgia like they used to. We all keep a Brigadoon like spot in our psyche and soul for where we grew up, or at least got older. Songs, poems, art work, dance, etc. all try to capture some of that essence.
