Sad but true. I hope the following is not deemed to “sommelier” but you neglected to mention the best combination of two substances to enjoy: 85% Diet Coke + 15% Coke on top that makes one of the most refreshing drinks on the planet.
Very interesting. Had a few RCs and Cokes myself growing up in the sixties in Virginia. Also Dr. Peppers, still my favorite. Had similar underground dining experience in the Balkans, in Zagreb, Croatia. But the gal making my burger slathered and orange substance all over it, all the while a cigarette dangling from her mouth. I could not eat it. But upon exiting the underground, walking up some stairs into clear air, I saw the most wonderful sign I’d ever seen: the Golden Arches. Ahhh, now that’s the taste of Ameirica.
Ha! Busted for drinking cold duck...that's funny! In addition to being a most talented writer, you strike me as a beer guy, Ed. One of these days it would be my honor to share a cold mug or two with you. My current favorite is Modelo. It's brewed in Mexico, but no cartels or chicken trucks are involved in its production or delivery!
Rich, and accurate. I grew up in wine country in Northern California. One year we bought the vineyard around the house. 40 acres, 100 yr. old Zinfandels, $200 per ton to Gallo for "hearty red" in big jugs. My father, local doc in town, did not want to be known for supporting the wine industry, so out came the vines, in went English Walnuts. The NEXT year, a nematode wiped out most of the red varietals in the Napa valley. Zinfandel grapes promptly went to $2000 per ton. ( our vines produced 5 tons per acre). The walnuts produced their very first small crop 7 years after planting...go figure.
This truly made my day! Thanks
This is hilarious & some of your best work!
