Hi Edwin! I ran across you in an AARP article, and got curious about your writing since I recognized your name as possibly being that of a high school classmate. Upon further investigation, I followed your substack and received your new publication today. My suspicion has been confirmed! You mentioned Mrs. McCarty… I had her for TAG English too at BHS, so you must indeed be the Edwin Leap that I recall. I think you were a year or two younger than I. Congratulations on your success as a physician and as a writer! It is wonderful to see stories like yours coming from our little hometown! God bless you!
Kelley, thank you so much for reaching out! It’s wonderful to connect. Mrs. McCarty was a force of nature to be sure, and influenced so many lives. I’ll always remember her responding to a classmate, who suggested that something in a story wasn’t fair, and saying ‘well who said life has to be fair?’ I connected with her online when she was in her 90s, not long before she passed. I hope to hear from you again. Merry Christmas to you!
Having the commonality of growing up as preacher's kids in West Virginia, then living in Seneca South Carolina, your heartfelt writing, and your humanity and care for my father in the ER certainly makes me request that you "keep churning them out" ! I so enjoy your musings and anecdotes! Thank you!
May you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.
(I will try to overlook the fact that you're friends with George Singleton 🥰 😎)
Edwin, I know that this is a little late. However, I do collect 5-6 of your pieces and read them together for one is just not enough. This article is so true & relevant. It would be really nice if we could slip a super size copy to our political leaders as required reading. A kinder, gentler approach is always appreciated! Great words as always!
